Basically we were given an hour to put a three part medley together from scratch; choreo, blocking, transitions, etc. Probably the FUNNEST exercise yet!

The Five Stages - Gaby Wagner
On July 27th, 2011, my dad took his own life. This completely turned my life upside down. Not knowing what to do or what to think, I found that dance was my answer. It allowed me to express the complex emotions that this unexpected tragedy triggered: the initial shock and denial, the bargaining with guilt, the anger and frustration, and the deep depression. In the end, my friends and family as well as dance brought peace and acceptance, and I knew the next step in this journey is to just keep holding on.
“These people have taught me the very meaning of life.” This project was so much more than any other dance performance. So blessed to have been able to share this powerful message with these people.

Whether people in your life have told you that “you couldn’t do it”, that you “aren’t good enough”, or that “nobody believes in you,” we always have the choice to be the better person. Not to fight back or seek revenge. In this piece, the only message we have to say is that no matter what those people might do or say to us… we still love you.
Congratulations to all performers on your journey to a great show. We’re very thankful to be able to share the stage with each and every one of you.

Studio 429 Teams 2011-2012 Preview! I am so blessed and excited to be a part of Breakthrough. I still can’t believe this all started 5 years ago back on P$ for me. Here’s to another amazing season. <3
Also on a side note, this performance was my previous director Jeff Morales’ last performance with Choreo Cookies. He has co-directed Cookies and Tru-Definition for over the past 4 years. I honestly believe he doesn’t receive the recognition he really deserves. I just look up to him in so many ways and I feel extremely blessed to have been under his direction for 3 years. So much of the person and dancer I’ve become has been influenced by Jeff. Love you Jeffrey!
